About the practice

A moving meditation

Often described as passive yoga, Thai Yoga Massage combines assisted movement, gentle stretching and rhythmic compression with an attentive quality of touch.

In this Level 1 course, you learn to move with the receiver rather than push against them. Breath, timing and body mechanics become as important as the sequence itself.

The training is open to yoga teachers, bodyworkers and therapists expanding their skills, as well as beginners who want to share a practical art of care with friends, family or their community.

The learning journey

From your first touch
to a complete session

We start with the foundations and build progressively. You do not need to arrive with massage experience or an advanced yoga practice.

Foundations & philosophy

Explore the history and philosophy of Thai Yoga Massage and its connections with Buddhism, yoga and Ayurveda. Cultivate an attentive, generous quality of presence.

Body mechanics & mindful touch

Learn to use your body weight, breath and alignment rather than force. Practice palming, rhythmic compression and assisted stretches while caring for your own body.

Sen lines & energetic understanding

Study the traditional Sen energy lines, their names and relationships within the Thai system. Explore how this understanding informs the flow and quality of a session.

A complete feet-to-head sequence

Build a full Level 1 sequence of approximately 90 minutes: feet and legs, hips, back, shoulders, arms and hands, neck, head and face, followed by grounding and integration.

Ayurveda & individual sensitivity

Explore the doshas and how awareness of the giver and receiver’s constitution can inform a more sensitive, harmonious approach to touch.

Client care & practical confidence

Learn to communicate clearly, recognize contraindications, respect comfort and adapt your work. Give and receive massage, refine your technique and integrate personal feedback.

Questions & answers

Before you join us

Do I need massage or yoga experience?

No previous experience is required. We welcome beginners, yoga teachers, bodyworkers, therapists and anyone interested in learning attentive touch. We begin with the foundations and build the sequence step by step.

What exactly is Thai Yoga Massage?

It is a floor-based bodywork practice combining rhythmic compression, assisted stretching and work with the traditional Sen energy lines. The receiver stays clothed while the practitioner guides the movements and stretches. The course explores its meditative quality as well as the practical techniques.

Will I learn a complete massage sequence?

Yes. You will learn a Level 1 sequence of approximately 90 minutes, working from the feet through the body to the head. Demonstration, partner practice and personal feedback help you bring the individual techniques together into a flowing session.

I’m not in great yoga shape right now. Can I participate?

Yes. All levels are welcome, and advanced yoga postures are not required. We build from the ground up and focus on breath, alignment and using body weight rather than strength. The practice involves working on the floor; let us know about any limitations so we can discuss adaptations with you.

Do we give and receive massage during the training?

Yes. Students practice with one another, learning through both giving and receiving. Feeling a technique yourself helps you understand pressure, positioning and the receiver’s experience, while guided feedback develops your confidence.

When and where is the next course?

February 26–March 2, 2027 at Yogendra Ashram in Cali, Colombia. The five-day course opens on Friday, February 26 at 9:00 am and finishes on Tuesday, March 2 at 2:00 pm. The residential option includes four nights of shared accommodation.

What is included in the tuition?

Residential tuition includes the complete 50-hour Level 1 program, guided practice and personal feedback, a study manual, four nights in a shared double room and vegetarian sattvic meals. The local rate excludes meals.

What certificate will I receive?

Upon successful completion, you receive a Bhakti Yoga School Thai Yoga Massage Level 1 certificate for 50 hours. The training provides a foundation for continued practice and study in Thai bodywork.

What should I bring?

Bring comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely, layers for mornings and evenings in the mountains above Cali, and a notebook. We will send you the practical preparation details when you register.

How do I reserve and receive the Early Bird price?

Complete the registration form and reserve your place with a $150 USD deposit. International tuition is $750 USD or $695 USD Early Bird. The local rate without meals is $595 USD or $535 USD Early Bird. Register at least one month ahead for Early Bird pricing. See our payment page for the available methods.
